What is RSS?
RSS stands for really simple syndication. By subscribing to an RSS feed you will automatically be informed of content updates from the associated website. This content can be in the form of text, video or audio.
To view the feed(s) that you subscribe to you will need a feed reader, this is a piece of software that can be downloaded in installed on your PC. Alternatively, you can use an online version which has the benefit of you being able to access your feeds from any computer connected to the web.
There are many feed readers available and many are free. Here are examples of two, however, if you do a web search for feed readers you will be able to try many others.
RSSOwl – A software feed reader
Bloglines – an online feed reader
The real benefit of RSS is that the site you subscribe to does not have any of your personal details and there is no danger of you being sent spam, as in the case of email. You can also unsubscribe yourself at any time.
