It is amazing how technology has moved on since David Attenborough started recording wildlife documentaries. At the time he started, cameras were massive and not very portable. When smaller cameras did become available they were considered to be a camera for amateurs and not used by broadcasters, such as the BBC. However, Attenborough needed the flexibility of smaller moveable cameras and insisted on using them. The footage was groundbreaking at the time and the rest is history.
In the modern era of film, stabilised drone and helicopter cameras are standard as are stabilised handheld gimbals or steady cams.
